How can we help?

Common questions about privacy, expiration, and tech.

The Basics

How do I create an account?

You don't. GhostyMsg does not have accounts, usernames, or passwords. Simply click "Enter Room" to generate a temporary link. When you leave, your identity in that room ceases to exist.

How long do messages last?

Messages exist only in the server's RAM (Random Access Memory) while the room is active. They are never written to a hard drive. Once the room expires or all participants leave, the memory is overwritten.

Can I recover a closed room?

No. We do not have a database. Once a room is closed, the data is physically gone from our memory. There is no "undelete" or admin recovery tool.

Security & Privacy

Is it end-to-end encrypted?

All traffic is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.3. For message content, we use ephemeral keys generated in the browser. However, because the server must relay the message to other sockets, we rely on "Security by Omission" (RAM-only storage) rather than persistent E2EE keys, which would require user accounts to manage.

Do you log IP addresses?

We do not store IP access logs. Our server process is configured to discard connection metadata immediately after the socket handshake is complete.

Can I use Tor?

Yes. We strongly recommend using GhostyMsg via the Tor Browser for maximum anonymity. We provide an .onion address in the footer of this site.

Report an Issue

GhostyMsg operates with zero telemetry. We do not collect automated crash reports or error logs. If you encounter a bug, please let us know directly.
